PATS TAKE KLIMCHUK

Edmonton, Alberta – With their 1st pick, 5th overall in the WHL Bantam Draft, the Regina Pats have selected forward, Morgan Klimchuk from Calgary, Alberta. . Klimchuk was the Captain of a Calgary Bison squad that won the silver medal at the Western Canadian Bantam Championships.

In 28 games with the Bisons this season, Klimchuk scored 33 times and collected 19 assists for 52 points while adding 44 minutes in penalties. He was also a 2009-10 South Division AMBHL All-Star.

Regina Pats General Manager, Brent Parker commented "We are very excited to have Morgan joining our organization, he is gifted goal scorer and as good a skater as there was in the draft. We believe that if he continues to develop he has a chance to be a very good offensive player in our league. He was the captain of the Calgary Bisons this past season as he helped lead them to the league and provincial championships. His family has ties to the city and I know he is thrilled to be a Pat"

Regina Pats Director of Scouting, Todd Ripplinger stated "He played great at the Western Canadian Bantam Championships, he was dominant and showed great hands. He combines great feet, and is a good skater; Klimchuk will be a stud in this league."

There are still a couple more awards to hand out, including the Torchey Schell Top Scorer Award and the Molson Cup 3 Stars final standings. They will be announced after the Pats final game on Saturday, March 13th in Brandon.

The Pats have one more home game for the 2009-10 regular season, that's this Friday night as the Brandon Wheat Kings pay a visit to the Brandt Centre. It's a 7pm puck drop with CKRM broadcasting all of the action beginning with the pre-game show at 6:35.

Fan Appreciation Night Saturday

Regina, Saskatchewan – With the regular season coming near an end, the Regina Pats Hockey Club would like to salute the best fans in the Western Hockey League with their annual "Fan Appreciation Night".

It will be this Saturday, March 6th as the blue and white host the Prince Albert Raiders. During the game, the Pats will be giving away tons of prizes including TV's, fridges and hockey gear courtesy of the many great sponsors that support the club throughout the season.

After the buzzer goes, there will be another treat. For the first and only time this season, fans are encouraged to bring their skates so they can take to the ice afterwards and skate with the Pats.

There are only three home games left in the regular season with the first coming tomorrow night with the Lethbridge Hurricanes coming to town for "Red Friday". The Pats will wear their red jerseys in support of the Canadian Armed Forces. To commemorate the night, there will be members of the CAF repelling from the rafters prior to the game.

Watch the Canada Game:
The Regina Pats Hockey Club wants to welcome everyone to the Brandt Centre for a thrilling night of hockey. Fans can watch the Pats take on one of the top teams in the WHL in the Vancouver Giants, and fight for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. All the while, during the pre-game and intermissions, fans will be treated to the Canada/Russia quarterfinal game on the big screen.

The Lowdown:
This is the one, and only time that the Pats and Giants will face each other, and the first time at the Brandt Centre since the 2007-08 season.

On that game on January 11th, 2008, the Pats got a goal and 2 assists from Tim Kraus for the 5-2 win the only one in 6 games over the history of these two clubs.

This will also feature a battle between the top 3 scorers in the WHL. The Giants Craig Cunningham is the league leader with 90 points, while Jordan Eberle and Jordan Weal are just 2 points behind for second with 88 points.

Giant Steps:
The Vancouver Giants have all but wrapped up the number one spot in the B.C. Division. The currently lead the second place Kelowna Rockets by 18 points, but trail the Tri-City Americans by 4 points for the top seed in the Western Conference.

On the ice tonight:
There are 7 other games on tap tonight in the WHL with the Pats keeping an eye on Saskatoon in Moose Jaw and Chilliwack taking on Prince Albert

Race for the Goal Title:
Jordan Eberle is currently 2nd in the WHL goal scoring with 42. Spokane Chief forward, Kyle Beach is tops in the league with 46 while the Broncos Cody Eakin is 3rd with 41.

Regina, Saskatchewan – The 7^th edition of the Regina Pats Sportsman's dinner is set and ready to go for Monday, March 8^th at The Delta Hotel. Enjoy a night of entertainment and fun, headlined by our guest speaker, Edmonton Oilers President of Hockey Operations, Kevin Lowe.

The Oilers first ever draft pick, Lowe spent 19 seasons in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers, winning 6 Stanley Cups. He is also a 7 time NHL All-Star and won the King Clancy Award in 1990. Since finishing his playing career, Lowe has been both and Assistant and Head Coach of the Oilers before being promoted to General Manager in 2000. He remained the Oilers' Executive Vice President and General Manager until the 2008-09 season when he was promoted to President of Hockey Operations. Lowe now has a trophy named in his honour for the QMJHL's top defensive defenceman.

All members of the Regina Pats will be present at the dinner with a player seated at each table. There will be more entertainment announced at a later date.

Week in Review

Tuesday, December 15^th Red Deer Rebels 3 Regina Pats 2

The Pats found themselves down 3-1 heading into the third period, when Carter Ashton scored with the man-advantage to cut the lead to one late in the 3^rd. It was too little too late as the Rebels took out the Pats 3-2. Craig Orfino scored the other Pats goal while Damien Ketlo stopped 19 of 22 shots.

Wednesday, December 16^th Edmonton Oil Kings 3 Regina Pats 1

The Pats offensive woes continued in Edmonton, as they were able to beat Torrie Jung just once in a 3-1 loss in Edmonton. The Pats injury woes continued with Damien Ketlo suffering a neck/shoulder injury in the first, with Dawson Guhle replacing him for the final 2 periods. Jordan Weal scored the lone goal in the loss.

Friday, December 18^th Calgary Hitmen 3 Regina Pats 1

The Pats played their best game of the road trip, but were not given any favours in a 3-1 loss to the Calgary Hitmen. The power plays were 8-1 in favour of the Hitmen, but the Pats were fantastic, killing all 8 Calgary power plays. Dawson Guhle was stellar between the pipes kicking away 47 shots and was named the game's first star.

Just the Facts:

Thrown into the Fire:

The Pats latest acquisitions in Carter Ashton, Craig Orfino, Cass Mappin and Mitch Spooner have been tossed into huge roles in the line-up. All four have seen tons of ice on their regular shifts as well as a ton of power play and penalty killing time.

M*A*S*H* Unit:

With Pats Athletic Therapist, Greg Mayer, currently serving in the same capacity with Canada's World Junior Team, Leigh Fitzpatrick has taken over both equipment and trainer duties. So far on this trip, his job has been a nightmare. In Lethbridge, Cody Carlson hurt his knee, Dominick Favreau hurt his knee in Red Deer, and while last night in Edmonton, Damien Ketlo was clipped late in the 1^st by Michael Burns (which wasn't called) and he hurt his shoulder.

Woe is "D":

With the loss of Colten Teubert to the World Juniors, as well as injuries to Brandon Davidson and Cody Carlson, the Pats sent out just one WHL veteran defenceman last night in Matt Delahey. Travis Sparrow, Myles Bell, Tyler Borstmayer and Mitch Sparrow are all in the first WHL season, while Hampus Gustafsson, normally a forward, took a regular shift as a defenceman.

Nygaard gets the Call:

With the injury to starting goaltender Damien Ketlo, Dawson Guhle will get the nod tonight in Calgary, backing him up will be 16 year old Winnipeg native, Cory Nygaard. With the Winnipeg Wild this season he is 13-1 with a 1.77 GAA.

Christmas Tournaments:

Along with the injury bug hitting the Pats, the Christmas tournament season has taken a bite out of the Pats line-up. Jordan Eberle and Colten Teubert are playing with Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championship, while Myles Bell (Team Pacific) and Tyler Borstmayer (Team West) are off to Timmins, Ontario for the World U-17 Hockey Challenge.

Top Prospects:

Jordan Weal was named to play for Team Cherry at the upcoming Home Hardware CHL Top Prospects game on Wednesday, January 20^th in Windsor, Ontario.

*Jordan Eberle is the active Pat career leader in points with 261. He is also the current active Pat career leader in goals (133), assists (128), points (257), game winning goals (27), power play goals (53) and shorthanded markers (13).

*Brett Leffler is 1 goal away from 70 in his WHL career and is now 6^th on the Pats all-time games played list with 276 (tied with Dion Zukiwsky) and is just 4 back of Perry Johnson and Mark Janssens for 5^th all time on the list.

13 WHL Players Named to 2010 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League in association with Home Hardware Stores Limited today announced the rosters for the 2010 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. The game will take place at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, ON, beginning with a skills competition on Tuesday January 19 followed by the game on Wednesday January 20, 2010.

“On behalf of the Canadian Hockey League I am pleased to announce the rosters for the 2010 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game which includes 40 of the top prospects eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft from across the CHL” said CHL President David Branch. “CHL fans in attendance and watching live across the country on Rogers Sportsnet and RDS have the opportunity to preview the next wave of NHL stars as they compete in front of a record number of NHL management and scouts in what will surely be an intense competition.”

The rosters were selected by the 30 NHL General Managers with NHL Central Scouting and include 18 players from the Ontario Hockey League, 13 players from the Western Hockey League, and nine players from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. 18 players competed at the 2009 SUBWAY Super Series including 12 players on Team Orr and six players on Team Cherry.

“On behalf of NHL Central Scouting we are very excited to visit Windsor and watch 40 of the CHL’s top prospects compete at the 2010 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game said E.J McGuire, Director of NHL Central Scouting. “The players named to the rosters should be proud of their accomplishments so far this season but should take advantage of all opportunities at this event to elevate their play and prove that they are ready for the next level.”

Three members of the host Windsor Spitfires including 2010 World Junior Team Canada forward Taylor Hall, along with Cam Fowler, and Austin Watson will compete with Team Cherry. Also competing from the OHL are two players that attended Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp including John McFarland of the Sudbury Wolves and Tyler Seguin of the Plymouth Whalers who was listed first in the OHL by NHL Central Scouting in their November preliminary rankings.

"I'm excited about playing in the Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game” said Seguin. “It's an opportunity to play among the best players in the CHL. The game is something we all dream about when we're growing up, so we're all looking forward to play. It should be a lot of fun."

Brett Connolly of the Prince George Cougars headlines the list of WHL players competing in the game after being ranked first amongst WHL skaters in November by NHL Central Scouting. He is joined by three members of the Portland Winterhawks including forwards Ryan Johansen, Nino Niederreiter, and defenceman Troy Rutkowski.

“It’s a great honour that they consider me one of the top prospects” said Connolly. “I’d like to be able to show people where I’m at with the best draft eligible players in the country. It’ll be stiff competition, for sure. I’ve had a chance to play with a couple of guys from Ontario and there are great players in Quebec and of course in our league as well. It’s a great measuring stick for me and I’m looking forward to the chance to play in the game.”

The Moncton Wildcats lead the QMJHL with three players competing in the game including defenceman Brandon Gormley who was the league’s top ranked skater as determined by NHL Central Scouting’s preliminary rankings. He is joined by teammates Kirill Kabanov and goaltender Louis Domingue. The QMJHL’s top team the Saint John Sea Dogs are represented by forward Stanislav Galiev who was selected first overall in the 2009 CHL Import Draft.

“It’s a great honour to be selected and a great opportunity to be play in the Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects game” said Gormley, who was also invited to Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp. “I have been watching the game on TV for a number of years now and I’m sure it will be a fantastic experience. I look forward to it.”

The 2009 event was held in Oshawa, ON, and featured all 16 CHL players that were selected in the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft including the New York Islanders’ first overall pick John Tavares. In addition to Tavares, seven other NHL stars have participated in the Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game before being selected first overall including Chris Phillips, Joe Thornton, Vincent Lecavalier, Rick Nash, Marc-Andre Fleury, Patrick Kane, and Steven Stamkos. A total of 11 Windsor Spitfires have played in this game including Ryan Ellis who competed at the 2009 event before being selected 11^th overall by the Nashville Predators.

WHL This Week: Looking Ahead...

Calgary, AB – The 2009-10 Western Hockey League schedule enters the first weekend of play in December with 22 games on the schedule for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

This weekend, several WHL Clubs will hold their annual Teddy Bear and Toque Toss events. WHL Clubs are aiming to break the record of 26,919 stuffed animals collected in Calgary last year.

Teddy Bear / Toque Toss events will be taking place on Friday night in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, while Chilliwack, Red Deer, Regina, Swift Current and Vancouver will all hold their events on Saturday night.

In Prince George, B.C., the Cougars continue their annual Christmas Campaign on Friday when they host the Kootenay Ice. Fans are invited to donate gently used coats and jackets which will be distributed to kids in need by the Yellowhead Rotary Club of Prince George and the Salvation Army..

In Kent, WA, the Seattle Thunderbirds welcome the Lakewood Police Independent Guild to their contest on Saturday night versus the Everett Silvertips. The Guild will be accepting donations which will go to the children of fallen officers in a trust. The T-Birds are also offering all police officers four free tickets to the game.

In Spokane, WA, on Friday, the Chiefs begin a month-long campaign to encourage fans to donate unwrapped toys to Toys for Tots. The organization will be in attendance for every Chiefs home game throughout the month of December.

10 WHL PLAYERS HEADED TO HOCKEY CANADA’S NJT SELECTION CAMP…

Regina, SK – Hockey Canada and the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced on Wednesday that 36 of Canada’s top junior-aged hockey players (born in 1990 or later) have been invited to take part in Canada’s National Junior selection camp from December 12-16, 2009 in Regina, Sask.

TYLER JOHNSON AND LUKE WALKER NAMED TO TEAM USA PRELIMINARY ROSTER…

Toronto, ON – USA Hockey today announced out of Colorado Springs that nine CHL players have been named to the preliminary roster for the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team that will participate in a three-day pre-tournament training camp from December 17-19 in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Spokane Chiefs forward Tyler Johnson and Portland Winterhawks forward Luke Walker are among the players named to the roster. Johnson was a member of the 2009 squad as well.

FRIDAY NIGHT WHL HOCKEY LIVE ON SHAW…

Brendan Gallagher and the Vancouver Giants (18-9-1-2) host Brandon Kozun and the Calgary Hitmen (21-8-1-0) for a battle of Eastern and Western Conference leaders on Friday night.

Friday’s contest between the Giants and Hitmen can be seen live throughout western Canada on SHAW (7:30pm PST).

The Giants suffered a 6-2 loss at the hands of the visiting Kootenay Ice on Wednesday night, snapping their three-game winning streak, but remain in first place in the B.C. Division and Western Conference standings. The Giants are 12-7 at home, but have dropped three of their last four home games. Gallagher has piled up seven goals and 12 points in his last five games.

The Hitmen are coming off a 6-5 victory in Prince George over the Cougars on Wednesday for their second straight victory after dropping their previous three games, and now sit tied with Saskatoon for first place in the Eastern Conference and top spot, overall, in the WHL. The Hitmen are 12-5-1-0 on the road this season. Kozun enjoyed a four-point outing on Wednesday night in Prince George, upping his WHL-leading point total to 55 points.

It’s the second of three meetings this season between the Giants and Hitmen. The Hitmen blanked the Giants 2-0 in Vancouver on October 30^th in the first encounter. The teams meet up again in Calgary on January 9^th.

WHL HOCKEY ON ROGERS SPORTSNET

Vancouver Giants @ Chilliwack Bruins; Sunday, Dec. 6.

The Vancouver Giants visit lower mainland rivals the Chilliwack Bruins on Sunday for the first Rogers Sportsnet broadcast WHL and CHL of the season (5:00pm PST; National).

The Giants currently lead the B.C. Division and Western Conference standings, and are gunning for their fifth straight B.C. Division title this season.

The Bruins find themselves tied with Kelowna for second place in the B.C. Division, but trail the Giants by 10 points for the division lead.

Sunday’s meeting will be the fifth encounter of the season between the Giants and Bruins. Vancouver won the first three meetings, but the Bruins pulled off a 6-1 victory in Vancouver in the most recent encounter on November 18^th.

The Giants host the Calgary Hitmen on Friday and the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday while the Bruins welcome the Hitmen on Saturday before Sunday’s head-to-head clash.

Brandon Herrod and the Prince Albert Raiders (16-12-1-2) welcome Matt Calvert and the Brandon Wheat Kings (18-11-0-2) for a battle between East Division rivals and two of the hottest teams in the Eastern Conference on Friday night.

The Raiders handed visiting Swift Current a 7-4 loss on Wednesday night to stretch their winning streak to four games, and have climbed into third place in the highly competitive East Division. The Raiders have posted a solid 11-4-1-2 record since October 20^th, including an 8-1-0-1 mark one home ice in that span. Herrod has goals in each of his last six games, and netted a hat trick in Wednesday’s win over the Broncos.

The Wheat Kings are coming off a big 7-2 win over the visiting Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday for their fifth victory in their last six games, and currently sit three points ahead of the Raiders for second place in the division. The Wheat Kings have scored 123 goals this season for the second-best offensive output of any WHL team. Calvert scored two goals in Wednesday’s win over the Blades, including his 20^th of the season.

It’s the third meeting of the season between the Wheat Kings and Raiders. The Raiders won both previous meetings versus the Wheat Kings, outscoring them 10-1 in the process.

Toque and Teddy Bear Toss Saturday

Regina, Saskatchewan – With the return of the Regina Pats to the Brandt Centre Saturday night, they would like to celebrate the holiday season with their annual "Toque and Teddy Bear Toss" night.

For over 10 years, the Regina Pats have been celebrating this Christmas tradition, and it continues Saturday against the Brandon Wheat Kings, as we encourage fans to bring a brand new stuffed animal, a pair of mitts or a toque to the game against the Brandon Wheat Kings. The puck drops at 7pm on 620 CKRM.

When the Pats score their first goal, fans can celebrate it by throwing their stuffed animals on to the ice.

The Teddy Bear Toss is a holiday tradition around many Western Hockey League arenas, with the Calgary Hitmen leading the way last season.

During their Teddy Bear Toss night on November 30th, 2008 a sold out Pengrowth Saddledome saw 22,722 stuffed animals rain down upon the Hitmen.

All of the collected toques and toys from Saturday night's game between your Regina Pats and the Brandon Wheat Kings will be distributed to the Pasqua and General Hospitals as well as Soul's Harbour and the Salvation Army.

Regina, SK – Hockey Canada and the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced on Wednesday that 36 of Canada's top junior-aged hockey players (born in 1990 or later) have been invited to take part in Canada's National Junior selection camp from December 12-16, 2009 in Regina, Sask.

Among the 36 players invited, 10 are currently playing in the Western Hockey League, including 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship gold medalists Jordan Eberle and Colten Teubert, both members of the Regina Pats.

The NHL's St. Louis Blues have also confirmed that they will loan defenceman Alex Pietrangelo (King City, Ont.) to Canada's National Junior Team, and he will be at the selection camp in Regina.

Hockey Canada may still add additional players prior to the opening of the selection camp on December 12, in the event that any other NHL teams loan Canada's National Junior Team junior-aged eligible players currently playing in the NHL.

Blades Look to Cut Down Wheat Kings

The Saskatoon Blades embark on a three-game road trip tonight with a visit to the Brandon Wheat Kings. Game time is 7:00 pm (Saskatchewan time).

Head-to-Head
The Blades and Wheat Kings have faced off in the first two of what will be eight meetings this season. On October 3rd in Brandon, the Blades were shut out 3-0 by the Wheat Kings. In the rematch on November 13th, the Blades responded with a 4-3 victory.

Stefan Elliott (North Vancouver, BC) has led the Blades' charge with 3 assists while captain Derek Hulak (Saskatoon, SK) and defenseman Jyri Niemi (Hameenkyro, Finland) have had two points each.

The Wheat Kings have been led by defenseman Colby Robak, who has 2 goals and 3 assists in the two games. Saskatoon product Brayden Schenn, meanwhile, has 3 assists in the head-to-head matchups.

Saskatoon Blades
The Blades (20-4-0-3, 43 points, 1st in East Division, 1st in Eastern Conference) last played on Saturday evening, falling 5-4 to the Calgary Hitmen at home. Derek Hulak led the way with a three-point night while Burke Gallimore (Edmonton, AB), Travis Toomey (Leduc, AB), and Gaelan Patterson (Saskatoon, SK) each chipped in two points. Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) made 25 saves between the pipes in defeat.

Hulak remains atop the Blades' scoring list with 13 goals and 23 assists for 36 points this season. Walker Wintoneak (Flin Flon, MB) is second on the team with 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points. Elliott, third in team scoring, has 9 goals and 17 assists for 26 points which puts him in a tie for third amongst WHL defensemen this season.

Wintoneak has the team lead in goals scored with 14 markers on the campaign. The Blades feature a pair of players near the top of the WHL penalty minutes list.

Randy McNaught (Nanaimo, BC) has 91 minutes this season which puts him second overall while Darian Dziurzynski (Lloydminster, AB) is fourth with 81 penalty minutes.

The Blades occupy a handful of spots near the top of the WHL plus/minus list in Elliott (T-2nd - +21), Sam Klassen (Watrous, SK) (T-4th - +20), Wintoneak (T-4th - +20), Hulak (T-4th - +20), and Patterson (T-7th - +19).

In goal, Adam Morrison (White Rock, BC) leads the team in appearances with 16 this season. The sophomore has compiled a 10-3-0-3 record with a 2.40 goals against average (5th in the WHL), and a .918 save percentage (5th in the WHL).

Stanford, meanwhile, has a 10-3-0-0 record with a 2.30 goals against average (3rd in the WHL) and a .914 save percentage (T-7th in the WHL) in 13 games played this season.

The Blades are ranked 18th in the WHL for power play efficiency, working at a 16.2% clip this season. While shorthanded, the team has killed off 87.4% of chances, putting 2nd overall in the league.

Brandon Wheat Kings
The Wheat Kings (17-11-0-2, 36 points, 2nd in East Division, 4th in Eastern Conference) come into tonight's game on the heels of a 5-4 loss to the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday night.

Brayden Schenn leads the Wheaties in scoring this season with 13 goals and 28 assists for 41 points and sits tied for fourth in the WHL scoring race.

Overage forward Matt Calvert, tied for 7th in the WHL, is second on the team with 18 goals and 21 assists for 39 points. Fellow overage forward Jay Fehr is third on the team with 12 goals and 23 assists for 35 points.
Robak is tops amongst the team's defensemen with 6 goals and 19 assists for 25 points, good enough for a tie for 7th for WHL defensemen.

Calvert leads the team in goals scored with 18 this season.

Toronto, ON – The Western Hockey League in association with the Canadian Hockey League and Rogers Sportsnet today announced the 2009-10 schedule of national and regional WHL and CHL regular season games that will be broadcast live on Rogers Sportsnet and RDS.

CHL fans across Canada have the opportunity to watch some of the top teams in the WHL, QMJHL, and OHL compete live on Rogers Sportsnet with eight nationally broadcasted regular season games including the 2010 OHL All-Star Classic and two QMJHL games available on RDS, as well as 11 games shown on regional Rogers Sportsnet channels.

In addition to regular season game coverage, Rogers Sportsnet will also broadcast four playoff games along with all CHL national events.
All six games of the 2009 Subway Super Series were broadcast nationally by Rogers Sportsnet with the two QMJHL games shown on RDS in November.

Broncos Acquire Friesen from Bruins

Swift Current, SK---Swift Current Broncos General Manager and Head Coach Mark Lamb has announced the club has acquired 19 year old goaltender Mark Friesen from the Chilliwack Bruins in exchange for a 3rd round bantam pick in 2010. Friesen, from Winkler Manitoba, is in his 3rd WHL season.

The 5'11" goaltender has a career goals against average of 3.21 and a career save percentage of .904 in 99 regular season and playoff games.

Head coach and general manager Mark Lamb says: "We wanted to add some experienced depth to our goaltending position. We are confident in our goaltending as Mark has nearly 100 WHL games experience. He is a quick agile goaltender."

This is the third deal between the Broncos and Bruins since the end of the 2009 season.

This will be the first and only time that the Pats and Everett Silvertips will meet this season. In their only game last season at the Brandt Centre, the Silvertips rolled to a 4-1 win. Colten Teubert scored the only Pats goal, while Damien Ketlo was tagged with his first ever WHL loss. The Pats were outshot 31-21, and let up 2 shorthanded goals and an empty netter.

Kent, November 25, 2009 - Jeremy Schappert scored two power-play goals and Prab Rai added a goal and two assists to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 5-2 victory over the Regina Pats on Wednesday night at the ShoWare Center in Kent.

Regina (14-12-3-0) scored the first goal of the game with two players in the penalty box on a breakaway by Garrett Mitchell at 13:16 of the first period. The goal was Mitchell's eighth of the season. Seattle (10-14-1-3) evened the score 1-1 at 16:48 of the first.

Defenseman Scott Ramsay fired a shot from the left circle that bounced off Regina goalie Damien Kelto's right blocker and straight to Rai at the right post.

Kelto could not scramble back into position before Rai buried the puck in the back of the net to make for his team leading 14th goal of the yearThe T-Birds outshot the Pats 8-7 in the first period.

Charles Wells gave the T-Birds a 2-1 lead with a shorthanded goal at 2:39 of the second period.

Wells deflected a cross-ice pass in the T-Bird's defensive zone and used his speed to beat a Regina defender to the puck at center ice. Wells skated in on net and fired a shot that beat Kelto over the glove for his sixth goal of the season.

The T-Birds tallied their third goal of the night at 7:54 of the period. Defenseman Stefan Warg fed an outlet pass to Sena Acolatse in the neutral zone to create an odd-man rush.

Acolatse carried the puck down the left boards and found Jonathan Parker cutting toward the net. Parker made one move and backhanded the puck through Kelto's five-hole to give Seattle a 3-1 lead. The goal was Parker's 13th of the season.

Seattle capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play and scored their third goal of the period at 13:16 to gain a 4-1 edge.

Acolatse slide a pass from the left point to Schappert who wound up and fired a slap shot from the high slot that beat Kelto for his sixth goal of the season. Rai earned the second assist on the goal.

Schappert extended his team-high point streak to nine games with the goal. Schappert has six goals and seven assist in the last nine games.

The T-Birds outshot the Pats 17-13 in the second period and held a 25-20 advantage through two periods of play.Schappert scored his second goal of the night and seventh of the season at 10:38 of the third period to give the T-Birds a 5-1 lead. Warg controlled the puck at the point and dumped it down low to Rai who was positioned in the right circle. Rai held the puck along the boards momentarily before sending a pass to Schappert who was open at the top of the slot for a one timer that beat Kelto.

The Pats scored the final goal of the game shorthanded at 19:48 with Matt Strueby's 18th goal of the season to make it 5-2. Hampus Gustafsson earned the lone assist.

The T-Birds outshot the Pats 13-8 in the final period and 38-28 in the game.

T-Birds' goalie Kyle Jahraus saved 26 of the 28 shots he faced. His record improves to 2-1-0-0.

Jahraus got the start in place of Calvin Pickard who is playing for Team WHL at the Subway Super Series in Victoria, B.C.Kelto stopped 33 of the 38 shots he faced. His record fell to 9-9-2-0.

This will be the first and only time this season that the Regina Pats and the Seattle Thunderbirds will meet this season. In their only meeting in Regina season last season, the Seattle Thunderbirds came away from the ‘Dome with the 5-3 win. T-Bird defenceman Thomas Hickey was fantastic yet again by picking up a pair of goals. For the blue and white, it was Jordan Eberle with a goal and a helper, while Jordan Weal had a pair of assists.

The two met once last season in the Emerald City, with the Pats winning in overtime 3-2. Troy Ofukany scored the winner in extra time, while Linden Rowat stopped 36 of 38 T-Bird shots.

The Regina Pats are 2-0 on the west coast trip after a 7-1 rout of the Tri-City Americans, the 6th-ranked team in the CHL, on Saturday night in Kennewick, Washington.

The Pats jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead on goals by Jordan Weal, Brett Leffler and Garrett Mitchell. It was all the offense the Queen City Kids would need, but they didn't stop there.

Second period goals by Jordan Eberle, Weal, Colten Teubert and Mitchell again staked the Pats to an improbable 7-0 lead.

All that was left was to preserve the shutout for Pats goalie Dawson Guhle, but Tri-City's Sergie Drozd spoiled that at 10:10 of the third.

It was the Ams' first home loss all season, but you can't say they didn't have their chances. They went 0/9 on the powerplay while the Pats were 4/5.

It was the Pats' 3rd straight win and upped their record to 13-11-3-0. They visit the Seattle Thunderbirds Tuesday night at 9:00 on 620 CKRM.

This will the first and only time the Regina Pats and Tri-City Americans will meet each other for the 2009-10 season. . The two met last season in a early battle that saw the Pats take a commanding 3 goal lead late in the 3rd period, only to see the Americans storm back to tie the game, and then win it 4-3 in overtime.

Last Action:
For the second time in 3 games, the Pats had to come from behind. In Brandon Sunday night, it was a four goal deficit, only to see them lose 8-7. This time in Cranbrook last night, the Kootenay Ice staked themselves to a 2-0 1st period lead, only to have Jordan Eberle notch his 19th of the season on the power play in the 2nd, and Kyle Mulder tie it in the 3rd. Vancouver BC – Vancouver Giants General Manager Scott Bonner today announced that the Giants have acquired 17 year old LW Connor Redmond from the Red Deer Rebels in a one for one trade. The Giants get the Maple Ridge, BC product in return for LW Lane Scheidl.

Redmond (May 3 1992) is 6'1'' and 180 pounds, and has 2 assists in 13 games this season with Red Deer, he also has 14 penalty minutes and is -5. Redmond was the Rebels first round pick in the 2007 Bantam Draft, 11th overall. Scheidl scored twice and had 5 points in 22 games with the Giants.

The Regina Pats kicked off their six-game west coast trip with a come-from-behind, shootout 3-2 victory over the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook Friday night.

Kootenay jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and carried it into the second frame before Pats star Jordan Eberle cut Kootenay's lead to 2-1 with a powerplay goal.

Sophomore Pat Kyle Mulder tied the game at 2-2 at 14:48 of the third to send it to overtime. Nothing was solved there, so the teams went to a shootout.

Brett Leffler and Matt Strueby scored for the Queen City Kids in the shootout while Damien Ketlo only allowed one goal to preserve the victory.

The Vancouver Giants today announced that goaltender Brendan Jensen has been reassigned to the Wenatchee Wild of the North American Hockey League.

In 6 games with the Giants, the 16 year old Jensen had a record of 3-2-1-0 with 2.97 goals against average and a .865 save percentage.

Giants General Manager Scott Bonner said, "It's a great opportunity for Brendan to play more and develop his skills. He will also have a chance to play in a National Championship tournament."

The Wild will host the Robertson Cup NAHL Championship Tournament May 3-9, 2010. That event will crown the Tier 2 Junior A Champion for USA Hockey.

The Giants have added 18 year old goaltender Mark Segal to their roster, he has been playing with the Nanaimo Clippers of the BCJHL.

KENNEWICK, WA – Tri-City Americans Governor/General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has traded for the rights to 19-year-old defenseman Eric Mestery from the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for a 2nd round pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft.

Mestery, listed at 6'5 205 pounds, has appeared in 21 games for Lethbridge this season, tallying two goals, seven points and 21 penalty minutes. The trade marks the return of Mestery to Tri-City, who originally selected him with their first round pick (7th overall) in the 2005 Bantam Draft.

REGINA -- The Pats finished the home portion of their November schedule with a 5-3 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings Tuesday night in the Brandt Centre before 3757 fans.

Matt Strueby and Garrett Mitchell each scored twice for Regina while Matt Delahey added the other. Jordan Weal had a pair of assists while Jordan Eberle had one. Damien Ketlo got the win in net.

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Matt Calvert of the Brandon Wheat Kings is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 15. Calvert scored an impressive 11 points in three games including five goals and six assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

Oil Kings At Pats Tonight

The Regina Pats (10-11-3) host the Edmonton Oil Kings (8-11-2) tonight at 7:00 in the Brandt Centre.

It's a big game within the WHL's East Conference as the Pats go in holding down the final playoff spot in the East Conference, and are just two points ahead of Edmonton.

Regina also enters the night just a point back of the P.A. Raiders, and have a home record of 9-5-1. The Pats have won five of their past 10 games.

The Oil Kings are 4-5-2 on the road, and have won just two of their past 10 games.

LEGENDS AT THE RINK ON RENFREW

The Vancouver Giants will welcome three Montreal Canadiens legends to the Pacific Coliseum for their game Saturday November 21st against the Portland Winterhawks.

Legends Night will honour the careers of Henri Richard, Yvon Lambert and Charlie Hodge. The evening will start with a pre game tribute to the three players who have combined to win 19 Stanley Cups.

The first five thousand fans at the Coliseum will receive a special limited edition hockey card featuring the three legends, and 100 randomly selected lucky fans will get to meet Richard, Lambert and Hodge during the game.

Tuesday, November 10th Regina Pats 4 Prince George Cougars 3
The Pats continue to roll on their home stand with their fourth win in a row 4-2 over the Prince George Cougars. If it wasn’t for Cougar goaltender Hudson Stremmel’s 42 save performance, it could have been a lot worse for the Cougars. Jordan Eberle led the way for the Pats with three assists.

Friday, November 13th Moose Jaw Warriors 4 Regina Pats 3
The Pats and Warriors began the first half of their home and home series in Regina Friday night. The Pats stormed out to a 2-0 lead halfway through the second, but the Warriors scored 4 straight times before Jordan Eberle cut the lead to 4-3. The Pats had the game tied after the put home a loose puck, there was no whistle but the officials called the play dead and no goal. Antonin Honejsek led the way for the Warriors with a pair of goals, while Jordan Eberle had a goal and an assist.

Saturday, November 14th Moose Jaw Warriors 5 Regina Pats 0
The back half of the home and home series saw the Tribe roll to the 5-0 win at home at the Crushed Can. Antonin Honejsek picked up a goal and two assists with Jeff Bosch stoning his former Pat teammates with a 27 save performance.

Sunday, November 15th Brandon Wheat Kings 8 Regina Pats 7
It was an old school shoot-out in Brandon on Sunday night. The Pats trailed 7-3 halfway through the third, only to see them score 4 times in 3:44 to tie the game, only to lose in overtime 8-7. Jordan Eberle had a pair of goals and 3 assists, while both Brett Leffler and Matt Strueby had a pair of goals. Goaltending was not a strong suit as Dawson Guhle let in 3 goals on 6 shots, only to get pulled in the 1st for Damien Ketlo. The Pats outshot Brandon 45-30 with Jacob De Serres getting the win for the Wheat Kings.

Subway Super Series:
Jordan Eberle and Colten Teubert will be playing for Team WHL in the upcoming Subway Super Series against team Russia on Wednesday, November 25th in Victoria. This will be the third year in a row that the pair has played in this series, which was previously called the ADT Canada/Russia Challenge

Defensive Scoring:
3 of the Pats top ten scorers man the Pats blue line with Brandon Davidson leading the defencemen in scoring with 16 points; Colten Teubert has 15 while Matt Delahey has 9 points.

Important Stretch:
Tuesday will be the last home game for the Pats in November as Agribition starts and the blue and white embark on their 6 game road swing across the pacific northwest of the United States.

The Rookies:
Myles Bell was finally able to get back into the line-up after fighting the flu over the past two weeks. Brandon Davidson continued his strong play, picking up an assist, Andrew Rieder had an assist while getting into his 1st WHL fight, and Tyler Borstmayer also was involved in his 1st WHL fight.

Borstmayer to U-17’s:
The SHA, along with Hockey Manitoba, announced the Team West roster for the upcoming World U-17 Hockey Challenge from December 29th to January 4th and Tyler Borstmayer will be a part of their defensive core.

New Addition:
This week, the Pats added 17 year old forward Tyler Parker to the roster. The Livermore, Ca. product spent last season with the Everett Silvertips and started this season with Wenatchee in the NAHL. He made his debut in the line-up last night in Moose Jaw.

Eberle topping the charts:
Jordan Eberle is currently the Pats active leader in goals with 123 for his Pat career. This puts him into the top 20 all time and pushes him past Mike Wanchuk (71-74), and is now 1 behind Dave Michayluk (79-82) for 13th all-time. Eberle’s 244 points pushes past Craig Endean (86-88), and is now 1 back of Mark Janssens (84-88) and 5 back of Tim Iannone (82-86) and Jeff Friesen (91-95).

BRANDON -- What a wild game in Manitoba Sunday night! It was old time hockey without the fights.

The Pats concluded a three game weekend with a date with the 2010 Mem Cup hosts, the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The day got off to a brutal start with the Pats' bus breaking down (see photos below), and only continued when the Wheaties jumped out to an early 2-0 lead three minutes into the game.

However goals by Brett Leffler and Jordan Eberle 45 seconds apart tied the game at 2-2. The clubs continued to trade goals, including a Matt Strueby powerplay tally, and it was 4-3 Brandon after one. Starting Pats goalie Dawson Guhle was lifted in favour of Damien Ketlo after allowing three goals on six Brandon shots.

There was no scoring in the second period, although Regina outshot the home team 15-3.

Brandon jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the third, and I was ready to start the bus. But then the Pats pulled off a remarkable comeback with four quick goals from Leffler, Eberle, Jordan Weal and Strueby to tie it at 7-7 and send it to overtime.

But the clock struck midnight on Regina's Cinderella night when Colby Robak beat Ketlo 2:12 into overtime to give the Wheaties the win.

Game over: Brandon 8 Pats 7 OT

STATS: Pats outshot Brandon 45-30, but were outshot 2-1 in OT. Pats were 2/4 on the powerplay and 0/3 killing penalties. The Brandon line of Schenn-Calvert -Glennie combined for 12 points.

MOLSON 3-STARS: 1) Eberle 2) Schenn 3) Calvert.

RECORDS: Pats drop to 10-11-3 while the Wheat Kings improve to 13-9-0-2 and are 2-0 against the Pats this year. They'll meet again December 5 in Regina.

OILERS RECALL DEAN ARSENE

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have recalled defenceman Dean Arsene from Springfield of the American Hockey League.

Arsene, 29, has two assists and 29 PIM in 15 games this year with the Springfield Falcons.

The Murrayville, BC native played the past six seasons with the Hershey Bears of the AHL before joining the Oilers organization. He enjoyed his best year in 2006-07 with the Bears where he had 15 points (3G, 12A) and 187 PIM in 61 games.

Arsene, who has won two Calder Cups, will be looking to play in his first career NHL game Sunday when Edmonton takes on the Atlanta Thrashers.

Huge Weekend For Pats

Regina, Saskatchewan – The high-flying Regina Pats have gone on a tear winning four straight games, scoring 21 goals in the process, and moving out of the basement. They have only two home games left in November, the first coming this Friday night with the renewal of the best rivalry in all of junior hockey.

The Moose Jaw Warriors will make their second visit to the Brandt Centre (7pm puck drop) and this time second place is on the line. The Pats trail their highway one rivals by just four points in the race for second in the East Division. The two will play again 24 hours later at the "Crushed Can" in Moose Jaw Saturday night.

The busy weekend concludes for the Pats in Brandon against the 2010 Memorical Cup host Wheat Kings.

Tuesday night will be the final home game in November for the Blue & White before they embark on a 6 game, 10 day road trip through the U.S. Pacific Northwest.
The Edmonton Oil Kings pay a visit to the Brandt Centre, with a 7pm puck drop.

REGINA -- The Regina Pats notched their fourth consecutive victory and pulled into a tie for fourth place in the East with Swift Current and P.A. with a 4-2 win over the Prince George Cougars Tuesday night in the Brandt Centre.

Regina got off to a good start, outshooting the Cougars 19-6 in the opening period and goals by Brett Leffler and Matt Strueby put Regina up 2-0 after the opening 20 minutes. Former Pat Dallas Jackson scored on the powerplay for P.G. early in the second to make it 2-1 but Regina's Jordan Weal restored the two goal lead with a powerplay goal of his own and Regina led 3-1 after two periods.

Again the Cougars got to within a goal when Tyler Halladay beat Regina goalie Damien Ketlo 3:32 in, but the Pats' Garrett Mitchell made it 4-2 Regina with a powerplay goal at 7:43. Cougar coach Dean Clark pulled the goalie with over two minutes remaining and they even got a late powerplay courtesy a penalty to Regina's Colten Teubert. However they couldn't cut into the deficit as time ran out.

GAME OVER: Regina 4 Prince George 2

STATS: Regina outshot the Cougars 44-24 while going 2/5 on the powerplay and 4/5 killing penalties. The attendance was 4006.
