Blades Look to Cut Down Wheat Kings

The Saskatoon Blades embark on a three-game road trip tonight with a visit to the Brandon Wheat Kings.  Game time is 7:00 pm (Saskatchewan time).

Head-to-Head
The Blades and Wheat Kings have faced off in the first two of what will be eight meetings this season.  On October 3rd in Brandon, the Blades were shut out 3-0 by the Wheat Kings.  In the rematch on November 13th, the Blades responded with a 4-3 victory.

Stefan Elliott (North Vancouver, BC) has led the Blades' charge with 3 assists while captain Derek Hulak (Saskatoon, SK) and defenseman Jyri Niemi (Hameenkyro, Finland) have had two points each. 

The Wheat Kings have been led by defenseman Colby Robak, who has 2 goals and 3 assists in the two games.  Saskatoon product Brayden Schenn, meanwhile, has 3 assists in the head-to-head matchups.

Saskatoon Blades
The Blades (20-4-0-3, 43 points, 1st in East Division, 1st in Eastern Conference) last played on Saturday evening, falling 5-4 to the Calgary Hitmen at home.  Derek Hulak led the way with a three-point night while Burke Gallimore (Edmonton, AB), Travis Toomey (Leduc, AB), and Gaelan Patterson (Saskatoon, SK) each chipped in two points.  Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) made 25 saves between the pipes in defeat.

Hulak remains atop the Blades' scoring list with 13 goals and 23 assists for 36 points this season.  Walker Wintoneak (Flin Flon, MB) is second on the team with 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points.  Elliott, third in team scoring, has 9 goals and 17 assists for 26 points which puts him in a tie for third amongst WHL defensemen this season.

Wintoneak has the team lead in goals scored with 14 markers on the campaign. The Blades feature a pair of players near the top of the WHL penalty minutes list. 

Randy McNaught (Nanaimo, BC) has 91 minutes this season which puts him second overall while Darian Dziurzynski (Lloydminster, AB) is fourth with 81 penalty minutes.

The Blades occupy a handful of spots near the top of the WHL plus/minus list in Elliott (T-2nd - +21), Sam Klassen (Watrous, SK) (T-4th - +20), Wintoneak (T-4th - +20), Hulak (T-4th - +20), and Patterson (T-7th - +19).

In goal, Adam Morrison (White Rock, BC) leads the team in appearances with 16 this season.  The sophomore has compiled a 10-3-0-3 record with a 2.40 goals against average (5th in the WHL), and a .918 save percentage (5th in the WHL). 

Stanford, meanwhile, has a 10-3-0-0 record with a 2.30 goals against average (3rd in the WHL) and a .914 save percentage (T-7th in the WHL) in 13 games played this season.

The Blades are ranked 18th in the WHL for power play efficiency, working at a 16.2% clip this season.  While shorthanded, the team has killed off 87.4% of chances, putting 2nd overall in the league.

Brandon Wheat Kings
The Wheat Kings (17-11-0-2, 36 points, 2nd in East Division, 4th in Eastern Conference) come into tonight's game on the heels of a 5-4 loss to the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday night.

Brayden Schenn leads the Wheaties in scoring this season with 13 goals and 28 assists for 41 points and sits tied for fourth in the WHL scoring race. 

Overage forward Matt Calvert, tied for 7th in the WHL, is second on the team with 18 goals and 21 assists for 39 points.  Fellow overage forward Jay Fehr is third on the team with 12 goals and 23 assists for 35 points. 
Robak is tops amongst the team's defensemen with 6 goals and 19 assists for 25 points, good enough for a tie for 7th for WHL defensemen.

Calvert leads the team in goals scored with 18 this season.
